Marriage Equality Town Meeting

Hernandez v Robles, Samuels v New York State Department of Health, Matter of Kane v Marsolais, and Seymour v Holcomb.

On May 31st there will be 4 court hearings heard at the Court of Appeals in Albany, New York in the fight for Marriage Equality...
It will be assumed that there will be one decision in the upcoming months deciding whether LGBT New Yorkers will have the right to Marry the ones they love.

The decision will most likely be on a Thursday, in the late morning to early afternoon, and from the 3rd week of June on...

The hearings will be webcasted at the court of appeals homepage which can be found HERE

On May 30th, the eve of the hearings, there will be 6 Statewide Town Meetings and Candle Light Vigils...
Rochester, NY will be one of those places...

Rochester:

Where: First Universalist Church
150 S. Clinton Ave.
When: 7:00 - 9:00pm
What: Testimonials, candlelight vigil, call to action
For more information, contact Todd Plank at 585-244-8640, ext. 24.

The town meeting starts at 7:00...

Please invite all your friends, family and straight supporting allies who are in support of equal marriage and equal treatment of LGBT citizens of NYS.

For more information, please visit the Empire State Pride Agenda Website...

New Yorkers For The Freedom To Marry

As a Marriage Ambassador for the Pride Agenda, I am spreading the word to everyone because I feel that Marriage is the gateway to equal and fair treatment of LGBT citizens. Some ask why we want marriage? Or why are LGBT people trying to "Invade" or "Destroy" the "Sanctity of Marriage"

I say...Equal Rights are not special rights...Until we can obtain equal rights thru something other than the label of "Marriage" we will never be treated EQUAL...
We will fight until we reach equal status

600-700 State rights are taken away from you everyday
1138 federal rights are taken away from you everyday
Civil Unions only give a select number of those state rights depending on what gets passed...

Youth & Teens - You should care about this as well...This is not an adult issue...THIS IS YOUR FUTURE!!!!

If you are 18+ you should be registered to vote.
If you are under 18, spread the word...

We wouldn't have to have the Digity For All Students Act (DASA) in NYS Passed in schools or the Gender Expression Non Discrimination Act (GENDA) Passed if we had the freedom to marry. We would already have laws of equal treatment!

Same sex parents would no longer have to protect their children in the future if marriage was passed because there would be laws against unfair treatment
Children who have gay parents would no longer have to live in fear of being harassed because they have 2 mommies or two daddies...

Massachusetts hasn't fallen into the ocean...
The sky hasn't caved in because they allow same sex couples to marry!

New York could be the next Massachusetts!

THINK ABOUT IT!

Hello Everyone ~

My roomate Dave and I are looking for a person to share our 2 bedroom apartment in Riverton Knolls with, which is 5 minutes south of RIT up East River Road. The apartment has 1-1/2 baths, large combined living/family room, in house washer/dryer, full kitchen and appliances, and storage space.

The rent is $289.33 per month with free water. RG&E Ranges around $30-50 per month, and we have Road Runner & cable which isn't much.

Dave is pursuing his graduates in computer engineering and I work full time out in Victor as a production engineer. We are both quiet and laid back. Dave likes to Game and watch movies. I love to watch movies and I'm usually in and out of the apartment througout the week.

If you are interested in talking with me more about the opening, or if you have any questions, please feel free to aim me @ dafinns5

Thanks! :)

"The New Gay Teenager" at Borders [08 Jun 2005|01:41pm]

clead_fan
[ mood | calm ]

Hello Everyone ~

My name is Denise. I moderate the "Rochester_Pride" LJ

http://www.livejournal.com/community/rochester_pride/

This an e-mail from Todd Plank at the GAGV about an event coming up at Border's Books & Music located at the Henrietta Border's on thursday, June 16th @ 7:00pm.

If you want to come and need directions, please ask me, that Border's is my "home away from home" :)

Greetings All,

I'm passing along news of an upcoming event at Borders: Ritch C.
Savin-Williams, Professor of Clinical and Developmental Psychology at
Cornell University and author of "Mom, Dad. I'm Gay.": How Families
Negotiate Coming Out, will be talking about his newly released book:
The
New Gy Teenager, at Borders (Henrietta) on June 16th at 7:00 PM. Save
the date and please pass this notice on to anyone whom you believe
would
be interested in attending, with a special concentration on reaching
"professionals" who work with youth (clergy, educators, social
workers,etc.)

I'm providing a copy of the review by Meredith Small, Professor of
Anthropology, Cornell University:

"Adolescence is no picnic-but is it especially hard for gay teens?
Ritch
Savin-Williams' groundbreaking book reveals that being young and
homosexual is not the identity crisis we might expect. Today's
teenagers
are more at ease with homosexuality-and with a more flexible and
shifting view of human sexuality in general-than their parents' and
grandparents' generation. With a conversational style, personal
history,
and intimate interviews with teens, Savin-Williams transforms research
into a great read. At a time when adults argue passionately over who
has
the right to do what with whom, kids must be laughing behind their
backs."

Questions about the upcoming event can be directed to Kathy Kurz
(292-5900) at the Borders in Henrietta. hope to see you there.

P.S. Tickets for the Gay Alliance's largest annual fundraiser, the
Pride
Picnic (July 10th), are now on sale! Help spread the word.

Thought this was a good survey [24 Mar 2005|04:25pm]

poohbear203
I found this on myspace and I'm passing it on... these people need help with their acedemic survery.

Greetings!

I am currently a 2nd year Master's student at Ball State University
in counseling with plans to attend a Ph.D program in the fall. For my
Master's I am writing a thesis on Lesbian Attitudes and Experiences
which is located at the link below. It is survey form, mostly
multiple choice, that takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It
has been approved by the Ball State IRB, and my data collection has
begun.

I am writing with the request that you forward this to any lesbian
women you know (and please complete it if you are a lesbian). I am
hoping to include as diverse of a group of participants as possible.

Thank you for your help,
Jessi Manning.
